It's Only Words
A poem for April 1st.
I thought I had lost my mind. People’s mouths were moving but their words fell short and hit the floor. People were tripping on them and falling, too. Speech therapists studied the situation they had seen words form in the mouth, but never had seen them drop to the floor. Some words shattered when they hit, breaking into syllables and letters. People slipped and fell on “o’s” and “e’s” and “c’s” and broken parts of “p’s and “d’s” and “b’s”
